Arrested for merely having tea!

A man was arrested in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, by the police merely because his act of taking tea at a pubic place created suspicion that  he was likely to indulge in some unlawful act.

The judgment of  the Bombay HC, quashing his detention by the police, is here. The denial of  compensation to the petitioner is a disappointment.

Addendum: The HC's reliance on Rajender Singh Pathania v. NCT of Delhi for denying compensation appears to be incorrect as the facts are not similar in  the two cases.
