During the last twenty years it has wrought havoc in the country's public life rendering the political process to be an oligarchy dictated by 'High Commands' and 'Supremos' and the peoples' representatives becoming mere gladiators and mercenaries. The nation and its citizens have become captive to pseudo-politics, dominated by vested interests bent on grinding their own axes.
It is high-time that we had a re-look at the Anti-defection Law.P.Venuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026784273810109267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15602189.post-57988391864478085102011-05-17T13:16:49.145+05:302011-05-17T13:16:49.145+05:30Since the Governor's report is not public, I s...Since the Governor's report is not public, I suppose we could go by the media reports on what it might have recommended. I don't see any harm in speculative discussion, purely for academic reasons.V.Venkatesanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08138846925562952785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15602189.post-85880949468689238232011-05-17T13:12:25.847+05:302011-05-17T13:12:25.847+05:30But the Governor's report is relevant in discu...But the Governor's report is relevant in discussing the SC judgment. Is the Governor correct in concluding that after the SC judgment, it should be concluded that the BJP Government had lost the trial of strength in 2010, and therefore, must not continue in power, whatever the same MLAs might say now. Since the Centre cannot allow the BJP Government to continue, on the basis of illegal trial of strength held with illegal Speaker's disqualification order, imposition of President's rule would be justified. Should not the Supreme Court have gone into the consequences of its own judgment?V.Venkatesanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08138846925562952785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15602189.post-28493818109207731072011-05-17T12:10:40.942+05:302011-05-17T12:10:40.942+05:30Thanks VV. Also, it is a tad premature to debate the Governor's report given the fact that it's not public and we, quite frankly, have no idea what he has really recommended.Madhav Khoslahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12474183345632762071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15602189.post-76148275552683763242011-05-17T12:03:44.383+05:302011-05-17T12:03:44.383+05:30Madhav,

But the SC judgment arose because these MLA's rebelled against the BJP. Their reinstatement therefore threatens the BJP govt given their past action. It is no surprise then that the judgment has been considered a blow to the BJP - it puts their majority at risk.

MKMadhav Khoslahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12474183345632762071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15602189.post-35717053451570775962011-05-17T11:26:48.235+05:302011-05-17T11:26:48.235+05:30Madhav,

Therefore, by reinstating their memberships, the SC has favoured the Yeddy Govt.V.Venkatesanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08138846925562952785noreply@blogger.com
